Cannabis concentrates provide users with a different way to enjoy weed. Concentrates are more potent than the flower and available in numerous forms and textures. For a quicker and more compelling high try concentrates.
The Making of Cannabis Concentrates
Most concentrates are made by soaking trim, cured nugs, or freshly harvested plants in a concentrate, such as butane, alcohol, or even water. CO2 extraction is considered a โcleanerโ way of extracting the cannabinoids and terpenes. There are solventless extracts, as well. Dry sift resin, hash oil, and ice water hash are all made completely without the use of solvents. Letโs take a look at the different types of concentrates:
Live Resin
Live resin is a form of cannabis concentrate produced using fresh flower as opposed to dried and cured buds. The starting plant material includes fresh flower buds and sugar leaves. A flash-freezing process helps preserve the most desirable compounds and retain the full flavor of the cannabis plant. This method helps preserve the terpenes that are lost during the drying and curing process, resulting in a more flavorful and aromatic experience. Live Resin is high quality, and highly sought after.
Budder
Budder is a cannabis concentrate that is smooth and soft, and even pretty spreadable. Budder is made byย agitating and heating the extract to about 100 degrees, and then further clarified using pressure and heat. The end result is the light, airy wax known as budder. Budder has a unique complexion, ranging from greenish brown to golden, depending on the method used to make it and the strain from which it is derived.
Badder
Badder, like budder, is usually classified as a cannabis wax. Itโs made in the same way as well, using solvents, heat, and air pressure to create the concentrate. Badder is stickier and thicker than budder, and has a whipped consistency that looks a bit like cake frosting or even cookie dough. Badder is known for its golden color, and is also frequently referred to as โbatter.โ
Shatter
Shatter is at the opposite end of the texture spectrum from waxy concentrates like budder and badder. Bright and brittle, shatter undergoes extremely rigorous extraction and purification processes to achieve a clear, nearly translucent composition. The result is something that resembles glass-like shards of hardened sap. Generally high in THC but low in terpenes and flavonoids, shatter ranks low in the categories of aroma and taste, but outflanks most other concentrates in terms of potency.
Sugar
Sugar is a high-quality concentrate that looks like a glob of brown sugar, with sticky, crystallized THC. Granular, moist, and the color of dark honey. Sugars (aka sugar wax) are known for delivering a tasty, terpene-filled experience.
Using Cannabis Concentrates
Heating and inhaling the smoke is the most common way to consume concentrates, with the help of dab rigs and vape pens. They are other ways to have concentrates to like hash, kief, and crumble, which can be mixed into a joint.
